Advanced Biology
Grade 11 - 12
2 semesters – 1 credit
Prerequisites: Biology and Chemistry I – minimum grade of “C” in both
This is a second-year course designed to prepare students for an introductory college Biology class. It is
strongly recommended for all science and health field majors. Course topics include biochemistry,
molecular and cellular biology, genetics, heredity, evolution, biotechnology, and botany. Current issues in
the life science field will also be examined. A greater amount of time and effort will be expected on the
part of student to complete rigorous reading assignments.
Students completing this class will:
• Be able to communicate knowledge and understanding of biology
• Develop critical thinking and problem solving skills relating to the life sciences
• Become biologically literate with respect to current topics in science
